Ireland, Day 6 - The Dublin Zoo

Since we had finished everything else with time to spare, today was mostly just a leisurely day at the zoo. We took the LUAS to the bus and the bus to the zoo.
Nasty sharp metal fork things as barbed wire

It was a pretty nice zoo. They're doing a lot of improvement, it seems. Not too much chain link.
Em loves wolves

We watched the sea lions for a little bit, because they wre very excited about something. Their feeding wasn't for another couple of hours (it's one of those that you can watch), so we were unsure. But, they were excited, nonetheless. We could see somebody moving around in the back area, then one of the doors to one of the back cages opened. A sea lion went in the cage and then turned around and closed the door. The remaining three did the same thing in the remaining cages. It was cool. I think it was time for them to get weighed.

So, we moved on. We saw a unicorn.

I saw some beautiful hydrangeas. I must say, I have never in my life seen hydrangeas as bright as we saw on this island.

We saw a nursing giraffe

And the hugest thistles ever!

Funny signs

Adorable red pandas

Baby meerkats

And the Super Duper Tuber Trail.

Then it was done, and we were hungry, so we went into town for some lunch. Max had seen a hat the day before that he wanted, and though he wasn't sure exactly where he had seen it, I was pretty sure it was in Temple Bar. I had read rave reviews for a cafe called The Queen of Tarts, which is also in Temple Bar, so it was off!

First was lunch. I wasn't feeling too hot, so I just wanted some soup. The soup of the day was minestrone, and I usually really like minestrone, so that's what I got. When it came, I was sad, because it's what most people would consider Good Soup. Chock full of fresh veggies, and almost no pasta. You know me, I want my veggies undetectable, and my minestrone to have lots of those little pasta rings that look kinda like calamari. Luckily, it came with bread. I ate the parts I could and all of the bread. (When you aren't feeling great in the first place, choking down food you don't like is not high on the priority list) Max finished my soup for me. Max & Em had a pear and chocolate tart for dessert, and I had a wee bite. It was quite yummy.

Saturday on Cow Lane in Temple Bar is like real-life etsy shops.  I got a cute felted wool hat. It was more than I really wanted to spend, but I know how much work homemade stuff is, so I did it. You all had better tell me how cute it is if you see me wearing it.

Then I led Max straight to the shop where he had found the hat, because I'm awesome like that. It's a tackle shop called Master Baits. Tee hee. He got his hat. We forgot to get pictures of either one.

It was time to go back to the hotel. Near the LUAS station was a euro store, so we popped in to see if we could find something we could eat in the hotel if we got hungry later. I found this pack of microwavable rice, and thought it awesome that it said "cheeky monkeys." I was singing the Simon theme song in my head for the rest of the day.

Em found a "Funny Pony" that looked strangely familiar....

Emma says - The zoo was really fun. I liked that the animals had space, but we could still see them. Mom gave me the camera for  the day, and I got a ton of really good pictures. Lunch was really good. I will be making a post about Funny Pony.
